The organisations creating social value for Ongo customers

Ongo is highlighting suppliers that, by working with them, are helping to make a difference to local people.

Within Ongo’s procurement framework, they encourage suppliers to contribute towards their mission of investing into communities.

This framework helps to level the playing field between large organisations and small to medium-sized enterprises. They have a team on hand to support with accessing their contracts, and to advise organisations on embedding a social value strategy into their workplace.

As part of this, many suppliers they work with have donated time, resources and funding throughout the summer.

Here are some examples:

  • HSBC donated £1,500 to deliver summer activities and financial education sessions to Ongo tenants, along with a trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park for local families.
  • Wilkin Chapman awarded £500 to Ongo’s community buildings, so they could provide ice cream and sweet treats for free to young people.
  • BioteCH4 Limited created three new jobs in the local economy, working with Ongo Recruitment, and offered two work placements for individuals to gain vital experience to progress with their careers.
  • Synetics worked with the team to offer six job opportunities and provided skills workshops at an Ongo event to local jobseekers.
  • Golf in Society donated £1,000 to offer golf lessons and support to individuals looking to build confidence.

Maryanne Fitzgerald, Engagement and Enterprise Manager at Ongo said: “As a large organisation in the area we work with lots of different suppliers.

“It’s so important to us that they align with our core values, know the importance of the social value work we do and contribute towards this where possible.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to all organisations that have gone above and beyond to give back so far.

“This is something we’ll be looking to explore and hold suppliers accountable for going forward, so keep an eye out for more of these types of initiatives.”

Liz Johnson, Business Development Manager at Wilkin Chapman commented: “We’ve worked with Ongo for a number of years and having attended their recent 20th anniversary celebrations, it was amazing to listen to the impressive work they’re doing, and the positive impact they’re making to so many people’s lives.

“With the cost of living crisis, we are mindful of how expensive school holidays can be for families and businesses when organising events and community activities. That’s why we provided funding for ice creams and sweet treats for the summer holiday programme.”

Tony Pendleton, Operations Manager at Synectics said:” We've been partnering with Ongo for our staffing needs, and it's not just their recruitment expertise that impresses us. What truly sets them apart is their unwavering commitment to improving the local area with a variety of initiatives.

“Ongo doesn't just find us the right talent, they find us the right talent with a purpose.

“Their dedication to making a positive impact in the community is inspiring. They don’t just match CVs to job description, they match individuals with a shared passion for making a positive change to our company culture.

“It's this alignment that has not only improved our team's dynamics but has also strengthened our corporate social responsibility initiatives.

“Knowing that Ongo is actively contributing to causes we care about makes our partnership all the more meaningful. It's not just a business transaction, it's a collaboration driven by a shared mission to create a better world.”
