Sid on track for trade career

Sid from Craven Arms has just been taken on as an apprentice by Shropshire Housing Group.  It follows a six-week period of work experience, where he worked at the housing association one day a week whilst taking part in County Training’s Advance course at The Ludlow Learning Centre. The course is for 16-18 year olds, who need some support in securing their next steps after leaving education by helping to build confidence in order to move on to Apprenticeships, college or employment.

His mentors at Total Response, SHG’s repair and maintenance arm, were really impressed with his can do attitude and found him a real asset. When an Apprenticeship came up for a Multi Skilled Operative, Sid applied and impressed again, securing the job.  He is now working towards qualifications in the electrical, plumbing and carpentry trades.

Sid said:  “I’ve been here a couple of months now and I’m really enjoying it. My colleagues pass on their knowledge to me and I have worked from North Shropshire to Craven Arms, which is my hometown. I love the variety of the job’.

Carl Morris, Director of County Training said: “We are delighted that Sid has secured this apprenticeship following his time with us.  Employers such as Shropshire Housing Group are a vital link for young people trying to find work and apprenticeships really are very beneficial for both employer and employee.”

Shropshire Housing Group currently has 10 apprentices and is looking to increase that number in 2017. Visit for up to date recruitment opportunities.
