Sending Christmas treats

Christmas should be a happy time but for many people it’s a struggle. We’re reaching out to customers to help them make the most of the festive period.

“We know there’s a huge amount of pressure on family budgets at Christmas.” explains Alex Nagle Assistant Director for neighbourhoods and customer services, “The Money Advice Service estimated that last year on average every adult in the UK planned to spend £419 on Christmas. And that’s on top of the usual household bills like rent, utilities, and council tax. So, on our website we’ve pulled together some tips on how people can make their money go further. And there’s a handy link to the Money Advice Service Christmas money planner.

We also know that for some people Christmas is even tougher. It’s unthinkable that in our modern society people on low incomes are having to choose between eating or heating. But struggling to put food on the table is a daily reality for some people. We are able to refer our customers to the local foodbanks so our customers won’t go without. Supporting local communities is an important part of the work we do as a business. And we’re really proud that our staff go that bit further by giving up their time to volunteer and fund raise for local charities and community groups. We’ve been busy supporting the Basingstoke Voluntary Service Christmas food box appeal. Staff donated a whopping 24 boxes of standard essentials and festive treats.”
