Happy 8th birthday to The Viking Centre

This week The Viking Centre, our community building in Barton upon Humber, celebrated after eight hugely successful years of making a difference to the community.

13940375-5deb-4afa-ac8b-a4251000f957The community centre was opened in 2015 and since then has had over £40,000 of investment, created a number of jobs and increased the offering of vital employment and support services to local people.

Free activities for young people, clean up days, campaigns to improve health and wellbeing, a free teatime and breakfast club, big trips out and the opening of a brand-new café are just some of the things on offer.

Over the past eight years they have supported over 100 young people with mentoring, activities and training and helped support over 50 people into employment and training.

They’ve supported the local community through the cost of living crisis, creating a warm space for people to attend, providing free hot meals, and setting up an affordable food pantry.

To mark the occasion, colleagues and members of the community held a birthday party with food, music, games and an opportunity to look back on their achievements.

Grace Woolley, Viking Centre Coordinator said: “We are so pleased we’ve had another successful year, and we cannot believe how quick the time has gone.

“The fact is, without the hard work and involvement from local people, the Viking Centre wouldn’t be where it is today, so I’d like to say a huge thank you to them, and to my amazing colleagues too.

“What we provide here is essential. I’m very proud to be a part of that and hope to see us celebrating our big tenth birthday in just a few years.”
