As winter approaches, South Lakes Housing (SLH) has been busy supporting our sheltered residents by providing Winter Warmth Kits in response to the cost-of-living crisis.

The idea came about by meeting with our sheltered housing residents, Age UK South Lakeland, Manna House and South Lakes Citizens Advice Bureau to look at how we can offer support with the cost-of-living crisis.

SLH secured a grant from Cumbria County Council ‘Cost of Living’ fund and generous donations from contractors; Butler Roofing, Rothwell Group, WRPS, Thomas Armstrong and Oakmere to purchase the kits.

The kits included thermal socks, fingerless gloves, a fleece blanket, a torch, biscuits and useful information leaflets on energy advice and cost of living provided by Age UK South Lakeland.

Residents commented:

"Thank you so much for the Winter Warmth Kit I received this morning. Please relay my sincere thanks to all the firms involved. I’m sure the contents will be very useful in the coming months.

Many thanks to everyone especially to the staff who were delivering it this morning in such miserable weather."

"Your very much appreciated Kit was received today. It is of all excellent quality & extremely practical...A lovely gesture and I thank you for your team's thoughtfulness."

Lyn Richardson, Customer Engagement Partner at SLH commented, "It has been a real pleasure to develop this idea into something tangible for our residents, especially as winter approaches. Our residents have been so thankful and it has been a joy to put a smile on faces whilst providing practical items to help."

Paul Butler from Butler Roofing commented, "It’s an honour for Butler Roofing to be able to help out in these challenging times."

Tracy Parker, Heating Maintenance Manager, RPS Homeserve+ commented, “We’re really pleased to be able to help SLH with their Winter Warmth Campaign. It was great to be able to both fund the packs and help deliver them in person to lots of lovely residents! As a local business, it’s important that we continue to contribute to the local community and consider the welfare of its residents. Thank you for letting us help.”
