Peer Support session: Ombudsman report on attitudes, respect, and rights.

Tuesday 9 July, 2pm-3.15pm
Virtual

The needs of residents are changing and residents in general needs homes are more vulnerable than we have seen in this past, not least those who are vulnerable through circumstance.

What does this mean for your approach to communications, including the languages that is used? There is a lot to consider in the Ombudsman’s new spotlight report Relationship of Equals,’ including examples of good practice.

In this webinar we will explore the recommendations in the report in more detail and learn from the resident perspective.

This is part of PlaceShapers Peer Support series. Anyone attending will come away with transferrable insight for their own organisation.

Featuring:

Polly Cox, Sector Learning & Development Manager at the Housing Ombudsman.

Leanne Peat, engaged resident from emh, will share her personal journey to being a member of emh’s scrutiny panel and the panel’s work around a vulnerabilities policy. Based on her experience, Leanne will share her thoughts on the importance of a strong approach to assessing and respecting vulnerability, and what this looks like from a resident perspective.

Helen Litherland, Executive Director of Housing, Care and Support at Trident, will share how Trident took the opportunity to learn and do things differently after a maladministration case which related to vulnerable resident. Helen will talk through Trident’s approach to residents who are vulnerable, including some transferrable principles and lessons which could support members in taking forward the ‘Relationship of Equals’ report.
