Better Social Housing Review coverThe PlaceShapers Board welcomes the action plan developed by the National Housing Federation (NHF) and the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) to implement the Better Social Housing Review and endorses the actions and direction of travel set out in the plan.

Strong collective action will be critical in ensuring housing associations are trusted to deliver on their commitment to residents to build and maintain high quality homes and deliver high quality services.

Matthew Walker, Chair of PlaceShapers, said: Our members exist to provide affordable, good quality, safe and secure homes for individuals and families and to help communities thrive, working in partnership with residents. In line with the action plan, our members are working hard to proactively identify and fix issues with the quality of the homes and services they provide.

"These actions, coupled with stronger and more proactive consumer regulation and a focus on leadership and culture in the sector, will ensure we are meeting the expectations of our residents and providing homes and communities they are proud of.

"As PlaceShapers, our members operate locally and have been leading efforts to build social and economic resilience in communities for generations. Many of the actions set out in the Better Social Housing Review action plan will resonate with our members and we look forward to sharing insight and good practice over the coming months to support work across the sector, for example on involving residents in decision making.

"Working in lockstep with local authorities and other local partners is critical to everything our members do given their focus on place and community. Again, there is insight and good practice about how this collaboration and local presence helps us stay connected to our residents that we are committed to sharing so others can learn from our members’ experience.

"We also look forward to learning from housing associations across the sector about how they are working to strengthen their services and improve the quality of their homes."

The PlaceShapers Board will continue to work closely with the NHF, the CIH and our members to respond to the challenges set out in the Better Social Housing Review and ensure we are delivering the quality of homes and services that our residents have the right to expect.
