What's in a name - a new era for Sugar Hill
14 August 2025

We’ve worked closely with the local residents and wider community throughout so it was only right for the new name to build on their proud history.
PlaceShapers is following long-term regeneration in Leeds as part of our PlaceShaping in Action series. Here George Nijjar updates for summer 2025.
Since the homes were built after the war, the estate we’re regenerating on the outskirts of Leeds has been called Sugar Hill.
But we’re excited to announce the launch of a brand new name for the development – Colliers Park – which reflects the long history of mining in the area.
Creating a new name for the homes reflects the level of improvement and transformation of the area, while recognising and paying homage to the history of the area which has helped shaped the community into what it is today.
We’ve worked closely with the local residents and wider community throughout so it was only right for the new name to build on their proud history.
We’re redeveloping the estate with homes for affordable rent and shared ownership.
We’re delighted that the ten original households have moved into their new homes and we’ve also welcomed back previous tenants. The shared ownership homes will add to the community mix.
The remainder of the new homes are on track to be completed in 2026.
