PlaceShapers response to Spring Statement
26 March 2025

Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced her Spring Statement to parliament on Wednesday 26 March.
Responding to the Spring Statement, Catherine Ryder, Chief Executive of PlaceShapers, said:
“Rachel Reeves confirmation of £2bn is welcome recognition of the need to maintain social housing delivery in advance of a new Affordable Homes Programme being announced at the Spending Review. It also demonstrates the government‘s commitment to social housing as a driver of economic growth.
“The focus on new homes is welcome and members are already sharing examples of homes that can be built immediately with this funding. These homes will make a huge difference to families who have been waiting years for a safe, secure and affordable place to live and will help build resilient communities across the country.
"Ahead of the Spending Review we are also urging the government to also focus on the critical role of housing-led regeneration in making the commitment to a decade of national renewal a reality.
"With an ambitious approach to regeneration, housing associations can restore pride and belonging to places ‘left behind,’ and improve people’s homes and quality of life, the environment, the public realm, and the health of local people.
"Giving people a firm foundation in life will support the government's target on reducing benefits by improving educational attainment and employment prospects."
