The Government has launched its long-awaited Levelling Up White Paper, saying: "Levelling up is a moral, social and economic programme for the whole of government. The Levelling Up White Paper sets out how we will spread opportunity more equally across the UK."

Ahead of its launch PlaceShapers' Stay Local, Go Far report evidenced the role housing associations are already playing in levelling up.

In response the launch Claire Higgins, Vice Chair of PlaceShapers, said: "We agree wholeheartedly with the Government: focusing on regeneration and delivering new affordable homes is key to the mission of restoring local pride to many places in the country.

"We very much welcome the expanded remit of Homes England and look forward to seeing the detail on their future work. Our members have ambitious neighbourhood regeneration programmes they are ready to start working on now with Homes England support. It's great to see that so many of our members' plans are aligned with those of Homes England and the white paper because it means that there is a greater chance of the many shared objectives being delivered.

"Locally based housing associations that are such anchor organisations are natural delivery partners for the community-empowered, place-sensitive regeneration that government and Homes England are so keen to accelerate. We look forward to working together with the team there to deliver this ambitious, transformative programme that will be life changing for those who benefit from it.”
