PlaceShapers is proud to be a partner in HACT's Energy Hardship Fund which aims to help 16,000 householders have a warmer winter. This is a message Andrew van Doorn, Chief Executive of HACT:
"Over past months over 40 organisations have donated to the Energy Hardship Fund. With their generosity we now have over £830,000 ready to support households across the UK.
We are so close to our target of £1m and I want to make a final request for support as we enter the festive period. Our total comes from grants, housing associations across the UK, and suppliers and friends of the sector.
Contributions have come from the procurement, construction and software sectors amongst others, demonstrating a shared commitment to residents struggling with their energy costs this winter.
The Energy Hardship Fund is a sector-wide response to the ongoing issue of fuel poverty. HACT is raising money so that social housing organisations can provide additional support to their residents who are struggling with their energy bills. Over 150 social landlords have already signed-up to distribute the financial support and we are open to anyone who wants to be a part of this.
As Christmas approaches, we are all looking forward to spending time with our family and friends. But this year, low temperatures coupled with rising fuel costs and cuts to Universal Credit, will make the winter hugely challenging for some. We don’t want anyone to have to choose between heating and eating.
Residents needn’t be burdened with the hard choices they are forced to make. With your support we can make a difference. With £1m we can support more than 16,000 households to heat their homes.
If you are social landlord or a company that works closely with the sector, we’d encourage you to make a donation. Your support will help households who need it most.
We’d like to say a big thank you to those who have already made a pledge. We’d also like to thank our delivery partner Charis. For every voucher withdrawn from money raised by the sector, Charis will put £1 into the pot, meaning we can reach even more households.
