PlaceShapers has been described as a ‘lean giant.’ We are a small team supported by an enthusiastic and involved board. Run by members for members we also benefit from the assistance of specialist networks within the network. We put place-shaping at the heart of decision-making to improve lives and communities.

What could you bring to the board of PlaceShapers?
Here at PlaceShapers we are passionate about the role of housing associations in providing homes, building places and supporting communities. Our role is to support and enable the place-shaping work of our members.
PlaceShapers is run by a small team, but supported by a brilliant board of housing association chief executives and a network of committed and like-minded members.
PlaceShapers is a dynamic organisation with big ambitions, despite our size. We want to put place-shaping at the heart of decision-making and are looking for board members who can help us deliver this.
We would particularly like to hear from women and BAME applicants as these groups are under-represented on our board. Our new board members will already be active members of our network and will understand the role and mission of PlaceShapers.
We are mindful that our board should broadly reflect our membership in terms of the size, geography and type of organisations represented by board members.
Matthew Walker, the Chief Executive of Leeds Federated and Chair of PlaceShapers, said:
“If you share our passion for the work of place-shaping housing associations and want our members to thrive so they can do more for their residents, communities, and places, then please consider applying to join our board. You will join a dynamic and committed board of chief executives and will get to work with housing associations across the country.”
The board meets quarterly, virtually and in person, and get involved in leading and delivering work in partnership with other members and with the PlaceShapers team. Board members usually serve for six years.
If you would like to apply, please submit a short statement setting out why you want to join the board and how you would contribute to the success of PlaceShapers.
Please send your statement to Charlotte Kay by Friday 24 October.
Virtual interviews are anticipated to take place Thursday 13 and Friday 14 November.
If you would like an informal chat about the board role, please contact our Chair Matthew Walker.
