Staff clock up the miles and more for charities in 2017

Busy staff at Incommunities have swum, cycled and rowed in 2017 to raise nearly £10,000 for different national and local causes.

At the start of the year, ten intrepid swimmers led by the group’s Chief Executive, Geraldine Howley, took to their local pools to swim the equivalent of the width of the English Channel and support the homeless charity, Crisis.

The swimmers rounded off their ‘channel challenge’ by taking part in the Great North Swim on Lake Windermere and raising over £1,200  for  Crisis, the nominated charity of the 2016/17 Chartered Institute of Housing President, Julie Fadden.

Sadeh Lok colleagues Cath Flooks and Jane Ashcroft also took on the Great Scottish Swim in August and raised £455 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

In October, 27 employees got on their bikes to clock up over 5,000 miles in the gym, going to and from work and enjoying the great outdoors on two wheels!

In just four weeks they were able to raise funds for the mental health charity, Mind.

Meanwhile, an Incommunities’ team competed in the Bradford Dragon Boat Festival and raised over £500 for the Lord Mayor’s 2017 Charity Appeal for Young Minds.

To round off the year, the housing group’s Building Service raised an amazing £1,000 for The Children's Heart Surgery Unit, Leeds with a raffle of festive gifts from suppliers and partners.

 Further staff donations in 2017 included:-

  • £825 raised following golf days in support of Macmillan Cancer Support
  • A £500 five-a-side team donation for a housing competition in aid of Crisis 
  • £317 raised for Save the Children on Christmas Jumper Day
  • £125 donated by staff towards the National Aids Trust on World Aids Day
  • £97.42 for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The housing group also made festive donations totalling £1500 to two West Yorkshire hospices, Sue Ryder Manorlands and the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

Incommunities’ Group Chief Executive Geraldine Howley, said: “It’s been another fantastic fundraising year with charities – big and small – benefiting from the generous support of staff and the group as a whole.

“It has also been wonderful to share in the positive experiences of staff in their various fundraising efforts for charities, many of whom have been nominated by colleagues. We have had such a rewarding time in helping make a difference and change lives.”
