It has been reported that the government is considering extending the Right to Buy to housing associations. Here's what we have to say:
Matthew Walker, Chair of PlaceShapers, said: "Members took part in the Government's Midlands pilot to move forward understanding of right to buy at a time of a deepening housing crisis.
"We are of course keen to support home ownership, which members already do through home ownership options, but there are many millions of low income families for whom this will never be a possibility.
"It's to these people that we owe the greatest duty. Like for like replacement of homes is essential. We need detail of how Government would ensure this and deliver on its recent announcements that the country needs more, not less, social housing.
"The timing of any new plans is also challenging - chief executives report that the cost of living crisis is fast becoming the biggest issue facing tenants and supporting tenants must remain the priority for members."
