New Year's Honour
West Kent Housing Association Chief Executive Barbara Thorndick, founder of the PlaceShapers Group, was awarded an OBE in the New Year's Honours List for services to social housing.
Barbara, who began her career working with Westminster City Council in 1976, led West Kent to its success as the first housing association in the UK to be rated three stars with excellent prospects for improvement by the Audit Commission in 2006.
She said she was "surprised and delighted" with the award and added: "It is a great lift to receive such public recognition, but I really believe this reflects the amazing team effort by everyone at West Kent."
