The development is designed to help people live independently in their homes for longer.  The properties are built around a beautiful courtyard area which contains raised planters, a petanque court (French boules) and greenhouse area.

The scheme is gated, with secured door entry and each home has level access throughout, with a lift suitable for mobility scooters to the 1st floor apartments, parking spaces and a external individual charging point for every property.

The development has been built within ‘HAPPI principles’ which are based on 10 key design criteria. Many are recognisable from good design generally including good light, storage and ventilation, room to move around, shared facilities and a natural environment which all benefits the residents and makes retirement living a positive experience.

Beech Gardens will take advantage of a Community Room, Laundry Area, activities, trips, and annual holiday arranged by the on-site Independent Living Coordinator at the already established Whitefriars scheme.

Support colleagues informed Mr Dunne of the advantages of the scheme which is due for completion at the end of March with the majority of properties already let. The same design principles are being used on another Independent Living Scheme by SSHA at Westlands, Wem and Radbrook, Shrewsbury.

Philip Dunne said: “I was impressed by the quality both in design and in construction of these innovative homes for those in need of some support to continue leading independent lives in the community in Ludlow. They are a great asset to the town’s stock of housing for rent and I expect will be highly sought after.”

If you have support needs and are interested in renting a property at Beech Gardens there is an Open Day on site on Friday 9th February from 2pm-4pm.  For more information visit: or call 0300 303 1190.
