Bishops Castle Mobile lunches is run by South Shropshire Housing Association Independent Living Co-ordinator, Jeremy Hall with the help of Dave Barsley, SSHA Support Services and residents Margaret Watkins and Carol Clarke.

The service has been running for 2 years and provides a two course lunch for £4.00 every Wednesday. It began with 9 customers and is now serving 25 with dishes including classic favourites such as fish and chips, roast chicken dinner, fish pie, jam sponge and bread and butter pudding. All dishes are balanced for health and main courses are full of protein.

One of the volunteer drivers, Rosie Read, decided to donate to the service in memory of her mother, Mary Wolfe, who worked for Meals on Wheels for years. The local Coop has also been supporting the service with their employees volunteering to help as their place of work is currently closed whilst improvements are carried out.

Jeremy Hall said: We are really pleased with how the service has grown and very grateful for the donation and additional help from the Coop staff. We can really see a bright future for the project with so much support from the community.’

The mobile lunch service has proved really rewarding for both the volunteers and customers who have taken up the service. It’s a guaranteed way of getting a really tasty and nutritious lunch without having to shop or prepare it yourself and also helps people feel less isolated in a rural area.

For further information about the service or to become a volunteer driver call Jeremy Hall on 01588 638957. Drivers are paid 45p per mile and don’t have to commit to every Wednesday.
