B3Living partnership project raises £26,000 in financial support for Broxbourne residents
The project was set up by local housing association, B3Living, and the Money Advice Unit run by Hertfordshire County Council in September 2020 to provide a dedicated benefits advice service for our customers. The support on offer includes one-off advice and information, support with in-work benefits, complex casework, and help with benefit appeals.
The support is available to people who rent and who own their home, and, to date, 21 families from the Borough of Broxbourne have received support through the scheme.
Our Income Manager, Sarah Styles, explained, “We knew our customers would be among the hardest hit by the pandemic, plus there is still so much stigma around having money problems.
“This partnership couldn’t have come at a more important time and it’s really helped us get on the front foot. We now have a direct line to refer anyone who needs this help.
“The service is clearly achieving results, and there is more to come as we continue working with these families.”
Gary Vaux, Head of Money Advice Unit for Hertfordshire County Council, said, “We are so pleased to have established this partnership with B3living. There has never been a time when benefits advice is needed as much as it is at present. Unemployment, ill-health, reduced hours and furloughing are creating huge pressures on tenants, families and individuals, and we’re delighted that this project has started to reduce some of that pressure.”
During the pandemic, all support is offered over the phone, but we hope to offer face-to-face appointments later in 2021 in line with public health guidelines.
