101 homes for Hounslow
101 homes tour
Hounslow Council leader, Cllr Steve Curran, and Shepherds Bush Housing Group (SBHG) chief executive, Paul Doe, were out in Hounslow to visit some of the 101 new affordable homes SBHG is developing for residents throughout the borough. Their tour included homes at each stage of development from pre-development through to completion.
An important stop in the tour was a visit to SBHG’s New Heston Road site where they are building 14 one and two bedroom homes with communal space. These are being built as part of the wider Hounslow Regeneration Scheme for the area, to include a new leisure centre. SBHG is working in close partnership with Hounslow to deliver homes in the heart of the community. Steve Curran said: “Through all of the work that Hounslow and SBHG do together, SBHG is one of our key partners. They’re our premier partner in helping us deliver affordable social housing in the borough. We are working together on this joint aim and keeping it on target and on budget.
“The leadership shown by Paul Doe and his team has been excellent and SBHG always deliver on development. They work with us and make it happen for local people.”
Paul Doe said: “We’re pleased to work so closely with Hounslow council to deliver new affordable homes for local residents particularly as we’re the only housing association with its headquarters in the borough.”
Paul Doe and Steve Curran also visited 20 homes on London Road, a mixture of one to three bed apartments for both affordable rent and shared ownership, completed in 2015. Steve Curran and Paul Doe met a SBHG resident there, who moved into her three bedroom house in September 2015. Her enthusiasm for her new home was clear as she explained she had been waiting 16 years to find the right home for her family. She said: “This is a lovely community and lovely home. I’ve met our neighbours and our children play together.”
Cllr Steve Curran said: “I’m delighted to have met a resident in her new SBHG home. It’s so satisfying to see, after many years of waiting for the right size home, she was able to move into this beautiful three bed home in Hounslow. Her children can still walk to their local school. It’s heartening to see we can have a real impact to help change people’s lives for the better.”
Whilst at the London Road development, Paul Doe and Steve Curran visited a shared ownership apartment and a home adapted for people with disabilities. Steve Curran said: “SBHG is a provider of affordable homes in Hounslow and they really care about the residents here.”
SBHG is also developing homes for both shared ownership and affordable rent in Bedfont Lane, Hampton Road West, and in Brentford. Visit http://www.sbhg.co.uk/ or http://www.sharetobuy.com/ for more information.
